Logitech Webcam C300 - 1.3MP
i was looking for a webcam for use for entry level security digital camera. Ideally to watch over my garden in the daytime, and to continue recording using the light from a security lantern in the evening. I have tried added webcams (see my review to the Tecknet 6 megapixel) not having success and couldn't come across any reviews that dealt with my application, so I wasn't too hopeful forever results.
Out of the box the webcam set up flawlessly. The software is definitely fine, although I employ different software for my personal application. The focusing is actually OK, probably the weakest feature from the camera, but it is definitely usable. The camera is actually easily configurable and set to highest resolution (SXGA) your picture is crisp, the colour and saturation become more than satisfactory. The camera adjusts easily to changes in light but will happily display excellent images across a substantial illuminance range (from midday sunlight to almost complete darkness). Strangely on the subject of receiving images in night, turning on the low light boost is known for a detrimental effect on the actual image. Having applied the following setting as standard, i used to be amazed at how much clearer the image was when i switched it off!
if you are looking for an entry grade security camera, the C300 is usually ideal. If you are trying to find a good quality webcam, I see no reason why the C300 won't suit you perfectly (although I have not used it because of this application). All in most of, a excellent piece involving kit.
